Is anyone else sending a kid off to college, right now? We are moving into the dorms this week!

I thought I would share a quick list of things we are making sure to take. This is our second year, and we have a son that is an athlete. The main priorities are being able to have extra calories in the evening, and being able to keep the dorm room clean.

Even though there is limited room, I highly recommend you buy a second set of bedding. Late night studying sometimes requires a drink and a snack. With the most comfortable place in a dorm room being the bed, it is a high probability that spills make happen. It is difficult for students to get their laundry done often, so having a back up set helps keep them comfortable (if even for the one night), while the dirty set waits to be cleaned.

Remember that dorm room walls are usually painted cinder blocks. You can’t put any nails, screws, or thumb tack in the wall. You need a lot of command hooks to hang everything (including curtains).

Along with things on this list, are clothing (be sure to pack comfy stuff, as well as dressy things for a special occasion now and then), a computer, chargers for all electronics, and some basic school supplies. A planner or wall calendar is a must!

I recommend visiting the room, cleaning it, and then moving things up and deciding what you are missing….trust me, you WILL be making a trip to the local store before you college student is all set.

Make the most out of the last few moments before leaving them. Remember they are anxious. Be patient with them!
